Soup & Art

Split pea soup. I made it from scratch! First soup I've made that didn't totally suck.

African mask I bought in Botswana. All the art in this post was hung in my spare room today. I need to call it something other than "spare room"!

Collage I made in art therapy last summer.
The futon I bought today.  No cover; there is too much white in this pic!

Fluffy the cat collage. Long story: my mom gave me a stuffed cat and a camera. I carried them both around for months making people pose for pictures. This was before I was online, so I made a photo collage.

I hate Fluffy.

Russian u-turn

 коренное изменение

The internet tells me this is Russian for u-turn; but how can the idiom translate?

I love you David Kessler

David Kessler was the head of the FDA when truth-in-packaging was enacted. He took on the tobacco companies and, as a result, those congressional hearings where all the tobacco execs swore that they didn't believe smoking causes cancer occurred. We have David Kessler to thank for that. In a 60 Minutes interview during his tenure he said, of living in Washington, "I rent", indicating his willingness to go to bat and get shit done, not just succumb to the inertia of politicking.
Next time you open a can of soup and the serving size is NOT listed as 2 ounces, say a little thank you to David Kessler.

Who pulled the fire alarm?

The library system was closed for 6, count 'em, 6 days in a row due to bad weather. Today we reopened. About a half hour before opening Karen triggered the fire alarm; the fire department responded, we evacuated.

Major drama at work today due to all the work and having to problem-solve for unprecedented situations.

iPod

Got an email last week saying it is policy that we can't wear headphones in public areas during open hours.

Reasonable, I suppose, but there are times when the music is what gets me through the day.

Make that "got me through..."

It Snowed Today

Here is my front porch.

Please Understand Me II

Because the first "Please Understand Me" just wasn't enough.
***cough***
I did their Myers-Briggs analysis and they think my personality type is "teacher".
I have just debunked personality testing with one swift swipe of my Bic.

Balsamic Virgin

I am the last person on earth to eat balsamic vinegar.
Had it in the King Harvest hummus; wow. I'm impressed.

Insensitive Jerk

I did something very uncool. Immediately I went to the Hallmark online store to send a card; nothing less would do. Turns out the Hallmark website won't let you use the word "asshole" in your personalized message, so I had to satisfy myself with "I'm an insensitive jerk". Really, asshole was called for. Damn you Hallmark.

Season's Meatings

Omaha Steaks for the loved ones. Because the loved ones don't get it, haven't gone veggie like the rest of my world, and will be totally shocked to get meat from their vegetarian loved one. Sometimes you just hafta give in.

Library Sounds

Found this great site when searching for video of crackling fire. (Holidays and all.) It has sounds of different environments, including library sounds. www.iserenity.com/library/library.htm
